Elmhurst, IL – The POWER Email Loop of Mothers & More, an organization that addresses mothers’ needs as individuals and members of society, will host an online discussion with Kristin Maschka, author of This is Not How I Thought It Would Be: Remodeling Motherhood to Get the Lives We Want Today October 26 – November 2, 2009.
A mother, long-time member and past president of Mothers & More, Kristin Maschka explores the epiphany every mother has when the disconnects between “ideal family life, ” “ideal work life ” and real life become all too clear. In This Is Not How I Thought It Would Be, Maschka goes below the surface of mother’s everyday challenges to reveal the invisible, outdated assumptions about mothers, fathers, money, marriage and work that are completely out of sync with today’s families.
“We’re delighted to provide this opportunity for all our members to talk with Kristin about the issues raised in her book and the important role Mothers & More played in the book’s development,” said Joanne Brundage, executive director. “Members have lamented for years about the lack of a book that truly covered mothers’ core issues, personal and global, through mothers’ real stories as well as with facts and figures. It is so rewarding to finally welcome a book inspired by us, about us and for us.”
The Mothers & More POWER Loop has been a respected forum for thoughtful conversations regarding mothers’ issues between mothers and those studying mothers for years. Past guests have included authors Ann Crittenden (The Price of Motherhood), Joan Williams (Unbending Gender) and Linda Hirshman (Get to Work: A Manifesto for Women of the World).
“I am looking forward to engaging the intelligent and inspirational mothers on this loop,” said Kristin Maschka. “I’ve enjoyed and even facilitated conversations on the POWER Loop in the past and can’t wait to be on the other end of the dialogue.”
The POWER Loop is just one of many member services Mothers & More provides to help mothers re-connect with themselves, connect with other mothers and connect with the world.
